Side-Car Rider May Go To Isle Of Man
The New Zealand Auto Cycle Union may depart from its usual practice and send a side-car combination to the Isle of Man motorcycle T.T. races next June for the first time.
A North Island side-ear rider, W. J. Russell, has been nominated for the New Zealand team, which normally I comprises three riders so that it is eligible for the team prize. The union is considering the nomination and a decision is expected within the next fortnight. Four riders have been nominated for the three berths in the official racing team. They are J. A. Wales (Hutt Valley), N. J. Landrebe (Otago), R. Breingan (Gisborne) and K. Williams (Auckland). Wales has competed successfully in New Zealand senior and junior grand prix in recent years. Landrebe is one of the country’s leading 500 c.c. racers. He won the New Zealand 500 c.c. T.T. championship unexpectedly, ahead of H. Anderson (Ohinewai) in Auckland last Saturday. Both Wales and Landrebe have entered for the national airfield championships at Wigram on January 22. Williams has considerable experience, having raced extensively in Australia and contested four New Zealand T.T.’s. Breingan is the least favoured of the quartet but is a fine rider, capable of representing New Zealand well. The team is expected to be announced before the Wigram races.
