Pay-Out At T.A.B.
Sir,—“The Press” reported that Tuarangi Chief paid £1 8s for a place in the last race at Addington on January 3. The actual dividend was £1 18s. I presented my place ticket at a suburban T.A.B. and was offered £1 8s but disputed the dividend and eventually received the extra 10s. I wonder how many honest punters were taken down. — Yours, etc., HONEST MAC. January 5, 1966.
The general manager of the T.A.B. (Mr M. B. Smythe) replies:—“The official dividend for Tuarangi Chief on 3rd January was £1 18s, was so announced on the radio and is displayed as such in the printed lists of results in every office of the T.A.B. The board cannot be responsible for dividends incorrectly shown in a newspaper but would not condone the deliberate short payment of a dividend for any reason. 'lf your correspondent cares to supply details of the office concerned and time of paymert to the local branch manager or to myself his accusation can be investigated.”
