CONGESTION AT PORT

Cargo Hold-up At Auckland (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 10. Because of congestion at the port of Auckland part of the cargo of a ship anchored in the stream was taken off by lighter today. Nine ships are anchored in the stream and outside the harbour waiting for berths. Auckland harbour board lighters unloaded part of 4000 tons of cargo from the Dutch freighter Langkoeas and tomorrow cargo will be taken by lighter from the German freighter Cap Colorado. The Auckland Harbour Board traffic manager, Mr A. T. Rose, estimates that the congestion at the port should be relieved within a fortnight. Some warehouses reopened today and most should be functioning again by Friday.
