MENZIES’S FUTURE
Retirement Likely (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, Jan. 10. The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, said today that he would announce a decision on his future at a special meeting of the Liberal and Country Parties in Canberra on Thursday, January 20. Sir Robert Menzies’s statement was carefully worded, but political observers said there was little doubt that he would announce his retirement as Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party. The Treasurer, Mr Harold Holt, was certain to become the new Liberal Party Leader and Prime Minister.
