Improvement Continued

Trading on the Melbourne Stock Exchange for the first week of the New Year showed a marked improvement. Turn - overs reached the highest level for four weeks.
Rises well exceeded falls daily but the upward trend of prices slackened towards the end of the period. The rise in the Australian copper price by £4O to £435 was the major feature and caused a strong demand for copper producers. Some of the more important moves during the four days’ trading included: — 8.H.P., up 6d to 49s 9d; Humes, up Is 9d to 565; Associated Minerals, up Is 6d to 535; C.R.A., up Is to 40s 6d; Mount Isa, up Is Id to 42s 7d; C.S.R., up 2s 6d to 63s 6d; Millaquin, up 3s 3d to 28s 9d; C.B.C. Sydney, down 5s 6d to 46s 6d; Geelong Gas, up Is 9d to 28s 9d; and Queensland Press, up Is to 55s 6d.
Life Savers Earnings Up

Net profit of Life Savers (Victoria) Pty., Ltd., more than doubled from £12,085 to £25,390 in the year to July 31. Accounts just lodged with the registrar show that tax provision more than trebled from £5194 to £16.302. Depreciation was up slightly. Another member of the Life Savers group, Mastercraft Chocolates (Victoria), Pty., Ltd., increased its net profit from an adjusted £2415 to £3016 in the year to July 3L
