Dancers Leave For Sydney
Twenty-two men and women of the African Dancers company, left Christchurch by air yesterday afternoon for Sydney.
■ “We will resume playing in I Australia and will open in Sydney on Wednesday,” said the company’s manager (Mr A. J. Herbert), in Christcthurch just before departure. “In spite of what some people have said, the New Zealand tour had been a success. “We have had a 20-week run in New Zealand, and if the show had not been a success, we would have been flying back to South Africa, and not to Australia.’’
Mr Herbert said there had been many rumours and stupid things said about the company’s New Zealand tour. They had originated from people jumping to conclusions.
“They see people being laid off and get all sorts of ideas,” said Mr Herbert. “In fact, there was nothing wrong, and everything was done according to the contract.”
Body Found The body of Frankie Tiopira, aged eight, was found about midday on Saturday in the sea not far from where he had been swept from the rocks near Te Kaha on Friday morning. The body was found by a skin-diver, Mr W. Boyd, of Te Kaha.
