W. A. Smith Engaged

W. A. Smith, who rode successfully in New Zealand nearly five years ago, has been engaged to ride the Woodville stayer, Sail Away, in the £15,125 Wellington Cup at Trentham on January 22.
S. A. Brown, the trainer of Sail Away, said yesterday that he had engaged the Australian rider late last week.
Smith is no stranger to Trentham. He won the 1960 Wellington Cup on the Te Aroha mare, Jalna, and other big races he has won on the course include three Autumn Handicaps (Llanisfair, Command Performer and Resemblance), and two North Island Challenge Stakes (Yahabeebe and Karina).
