U.S. Swimmers To Tour N.Z.

Five United States women’s swimming champions, including two world-record holders, will compete in nine New Zealand centres between January 26 and February 10. It will be the first United States swimming team to tour New Zealand, although individual swimmers have appeared in the past. The team includes one swimmer of every stroke, and also a medley swimmer. Miss Mary Ellen Olcese, aged 14, is United States individual medley champion and holds the world record for the medley and the 440 yards medley. The other world-

record holder is Miss Susan Pitt, who is a national butterfly champion and represented the United States at Tokyo. The only other Olympic representative is Miss Cynthia Goyette, aged 18, the 100 and 200 metres breaststroke champion. Miss Judith Humbarger is 200 metres backstroke champion and Miss June Parkman is a freestyle champion. The manager and chaperone will be Mrs J. Krauser. The team will leave Los Angeles on January 23 and will appear first at Auckland on January 26. It will visit Auckland, Tauranga, Napier (three days before the New Zealand championships), New Plymouth, Nae Nae, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill.
