ALGALON IN FORM

Handicap At Sandown (N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) MELBOURNE The New Zealand-bred stayer, Algalon. winner of the New Zealand Derby, Moonee Valley Cup and Bendigo Cup, is in peak condition and is fancied to boost his earnings to more than £16,000 by winning the two-mile Inkerman Handicap at Sandown today. The six-year-old Alonzo gelding was given a short let-up after winning the £3200 Victoria Racing Club Handicap, over one mile and three-quarters at Flemington on November 6, and then came with a terrific burst in the straight to take fourth in a four-wav’ photo finish for the 13-furlong Bagot Handicap last Monday. His connexions feel that he needed that run to bring him to peak fitness and that he is now ready to win. The veteran sprinter, Samson, a Sandown specialist and winner of more than £36,000 in stake money, returns to racing after a four-month spell and is cofavourite for the six-furlong Park Stakes.

Samson has been galloping well in training and invariably makes a bold showing “first-up” after a spell.
