Sunset Fair Fancied In Goldfields Cup
“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Sunset Fair, which is virtually a newcomer to middle distances, looks a fine winning prospect for the £2OOO Goldfields Cup, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Thames today. His latest form has been good.
On breeding he should have little difficulty in getting a solidly run 10 furlongs.
Sunset Fair was second, two starts back, to the promising stayer Red Crest over ten and a half furlongs at Rotorua. At his last start he outfinished a good field of milers in the Ellerslie One Thousand last Monday. Meanwhile he is reported to have thrived. The hardest for Sunset Fair to beat may be Jovic, an eight-year-old from Pukekohe, Pretty Lucky, one of the light-weights, and Isfahan.
Jovic and Isfahan are front runners and will be well suited by the turning course. Pretty Lucky finished fourth at Rotorua at her last start and a good training gal'lop at Takanini on Thursday showed that she has improved meantime. Kurrewa, a half-brother to Firenze, could upset the favourites. At his last start he ran very well for sixth in the George Adams Handicap, a mile, at Ellerslie on Monday. Form RUnners Nassella, a stablemate of Kurrewa, looks the one to beat in the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the Flying Handicap. Prince Manu, Arbelle, a winner at her last start, and the top-weight, Equality, are also certain to be well backed. Equality has yet to show form this season, but he worked impressively over three furlongs at Takanini on Thursday. The weather has been overcast, with showers, and the track is certain to be soft.
