STOCK HELD BACK

Works Below Capacity (N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 7. Most North Island freezing works are working below capacity on this season’s lamb kill because farmers are holding back stock because of an abundance of feed. The problem of buying instore replacements at a satisfactory price has also discouraged farmers from quitting stock. “There is every indication that this will be a long, steady season,” said a spokesman for a freezing company. “We are killing steadily but we are not worried about being pushed.” A freezing works foreman said that unless there was a change in the weather the posi. tion could continue for some time. “This could be a problem in the future because our markets will not be wanting overweight sheep or beef,” he said.
