Rain Beats Fairlie CN* Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. Rain again washed out play in the North Island tennis championships at Hamilton yesterday. It left the second semi-final of the men's doubles unfinished between the top seeds. R. G. Clarke and J. B. Souter (Wellington), and the third seeded L. A. Gerrard and B. F. Fairlie (Auckland). The match was abandoned at the beginning of the third set with the score at one set each, Gerrard and Fairlie defaulting. Fairlie is required for the New Zealand under-19 championships, which started in Auckland yesterday. He stayed in Hamilton to play in the semi-final and if the weather had held, the final would also have been played. Now Souter and Clarke go through to the final to meet the second seeds. J. E. Robson and A. Burns (Auckland), who beat J. A. Barry (Waikato) and B. E. Woolf (Auckland), 6-1, 7-5. Earlier, Miss S. Clement toppled the top-seeded Miss E. Terry in a semi-final of the women’s singles, and the top seeds. Mesdames E. Stephan and H. Robson (Auckland) won their women's doubles semi-final against Mrs J. Bignell and Miss A. Glenie (Auckland). They will now meet the second seeds, Misses Terry and B.
