A New Zealand naval officer on loan to the Royal Malaysian Navy now commands the R.M.N.’s largest ship, the coastal mine-sweeper K.D. Mahamiru, according to a statement released today by the Royal New Zealand Navy. He is Lieutenant Commander C. J. Carl, of Christchurch, who has-been serving in Malaysia since May last year as one of three New Zealand naval officers on loan to the R.M.N. • Mahamiru is one of the modern British coastal minesweepers with a displacement of 360 tons and a ship's com pany of 30 It was transferred to Malaysia from the Royal Navy. Lieutenant Commander Carl is a former pupil of Christ's
College who joined the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1952 Before he left New Zealand he served in the training establishment H.M.N.Z.S. Tamaki.
