CONSULAR OFFICE
Establishment In Sydney (N.Z. Press .Association) WELLINGTON, June 15. A consular office has been established in Sydney as a sub-office of the New Zealand High Commission at Canberra. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said tonight this was in order to provide more effective consular services in Australia. The Sydney office would be the central office for New Zealand consular affairs throughout Australia and would be under the direction of Miss Barbara Angus. Mr Holyoake said the need for full consular facilities at Sydney had become increasingly more pressing with the growing number of visitors coming to New Zealand from Australia or by way of Sydney from other countries. The office would also facilitate the provision of travel documents for the many New Zealanders who, while visiting Australia, decided to travel further afield.
Mr Holyoake said the Sydney consular office . would undertake the information activities normally provided at New Zealand consular offices. Trade inquiries would continue to be handled by the trade commission in Sydney. He said the new qffice had been established in the newly opened United Insurance Building, George street.
