PORTABLE DRUG PUMP
Cancer Cells Attacked A device has been developed in the United States to pump a steady stream of anti-cancer drugs into the blood stream of cancer patients without their needing to be in hospital. The pump, which is attached to the. patient, weights about fib and contains a plastic reservoir for about loz of drugs, enough for a one-week supply. A continuous flow of the drugs is required in order to attack cancer cells while they reproduce, which is when they are most vulnerable.
The device was developed by Dr. Elton Watkins, director of surgical research at the Dahey Clinic, Boston, where it has been used experimentally to treat patients with cancers of the head, neck and liver.—U.S.l.S.
