Soviet Skipper Given Asylum

(N .7 J 3 .A .-Reuter— Copyright) GIBRALTAR, May 18 The skipper of a Soviet passenger ship which arrived in Gibraltar earlier this month has asked for political asylum, and is now in Britain, the Gibraltar authorities announced today. A news statement said Victor Stizhko, aged 37. skipper of the 348-ton Zarniza, which arrived in Gibraltar on May 1, asked for political asylum on May 3. He was a married man, and had a young son. Stizhko told police he had an idea that he was to be accused of being a criminal, and he wanted to forestall any such allegations.
