The Canterbury Federation of Parent-teacher and Home and School Associations has elected the following officers: Patrons, Professor H E. Field and Mr C. T. Ford: president. Mr L. D. J. Whatman (coopted member); immediate past president, Mrs L. J. Broomfield; (associate member); vice-presidents. Mrs D. O. Allingham (Christchurch 8.H.5.) and Mr M. C. Butler (Riccarton HS); secre-tary-treasurer (Mr K. S. Hill (associate member), auditor. Mr R. A. Graveston; committee, Mesdames L. Cox (Elmwood), C. T. O’Cain (Christchurch South Intermediate), Messrs C. C. Steel (Cashmere), J. R. Lawrie (Heaton Intermediate), and R. J. Scott (Sumner).
Tributes were paid to Mrs L J. Broomfield, who is retiring after five years as president. She has been a member of the executive for 10 years. Delegates said her advocacy that the federation should serve rather than organise affiliated associations had been largely responsible for the tremendous growth in the movement. A presentation was made to Mrs Broomfield.
