Spy Charge In Israel
(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) TEL AVIV, May 18. The Tel Aviv acting district prosecutor said today that charges involving eight counts—one relating to spying activities before 1957 had been served on Dr. Israel Baer. Dr. Baer, a lieutenantcolonel in the Israeli reserves, was regarded as one of the top military planners during the early years of Israel.
The attorney Mr Eliezer Leibson, said that the counts charge Dr. Baer with passing secret information to a foreign Power with intent to harm the security of Israel. Details of the charges were not released. Dr. Baer is liable to life imprisonment, if found guilty, according to the State Security Law, under which he is charged. Yesterday, Mr David BenGurion, the Israeli Prime Minister, told a questioner in Parliament it was not true that Dr. Baer had ever been his military adviser.
