NEW COUNCIL BUILDING
Special Meeting At Halswell
The Halswell County Council will pass a resolution at a special meeting early in June to apply to the Local Authorities Loans Board for sanction to raise a loan of £6600 for the new council offices and chamber.
The new building will be on council property at the corner of Halswell Junction and Sparks roads. The special meeting will be advertised two weeks before to give ratepayers an opportunity to object. In her report to the council on Thursday the County Clerk (Mrs R. Ballintine) favoured asking for a 15year period in which to repay the loan. At 5 per cent interest, £315 8s 6d would be required for half-yearly payments over the 15 years, Mrs Ballintine said.
The loan would be repaid from general revenue, she said.
