POSITIVE SWAB

Wairio Win By Barbin

Advice has been received by the New Zealand Trotting Conference that Barbin, winner of the Wreys Bush Handicap at the Wairio Trotting Club’s annual meeting on April 15, has returned a positive swab.

No date has been set for the hearing of charges resulting from the positive test, but the hearing is not expected to take place until next month.

Barbin is an eight-year-old gelding by Canova from Worthy Lady. He is raced in partnership by his Winton breeder, R. R. Wilson, and R. G. Malcolm, who drove him. He is trained at Nightcaps by J. Malcolm. Barbin’s win at Wairio was his first. He had had eight earlier starts this season for one third. He failed in nine appearances last season ’and in one as a six-year-old. He has also failed in two starts since his winning run.
