Minister For Burma

(IV.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 17.

The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake' announced today the appointment of Brigadier Aung Shwe as Burmese Minister to New Zealand. Like his predecessor, U Than Hla. who left to take up a post in Pakistan last month, the new Minister will be concurrently Ambassador to Australia and will live in Canberra, making periodic visits to New Zealand

Mr Holyoake said Brigadier Aung Shwe had a distinguished Army record dating from 1940 when he graduated from Rangoon University. In 1959 he was appointed commanding officer of the South Burma Command,

Brigadier Aung Shwe is married and has five children. He is expected to visit New Zealand soon.
