Military records in Washington show that LieutenantGeneral Do Yung Chang, the leader of the junta which overthrew the South Korean Government, is a native of North Korea who was a student at the United States Army Command and General Staff School in 1952 and 1953. He attended the school at Leavenworth, Kansas, after the Korean War, during which he commanded the 6th Korean Division and, early in 1951. held off an attack by six Chinese Army corps which reduced his division to 2000 men. The records show he was born in North Pyongan Province on January 23, 1923, and began his military career in 1944, when he was a cadet at the officers’ training school operated by the Japanese at Nanking, China. He travelled widely after South Korea became independent, visiting Formosa, Jordan, Turkey and the United States. On one of his three United States visits he met a Korean' girl, Hyun Sok Paek, and they were married in October, 1954. They have two sons and a daughter
