WOMAN GARAGE ASSISTANTS
Employment By City Firm
The notion that tinkering with cars is the preserve of men is fast disappearing. Anyone who takes a car to be greased at a certain Christchurch garage may now find the job being done by a woman. The firm has had difficulty in finding men to fill vacancies in the garage, so has decided to try out women employees. Two have already been taken on. One polishes new cars, and this week another started work in the lubrication department Dressed in overalls and cap. she was checking the water in batteries and applying an oil-can with a professional air yesterday. “I have always greased my own car, so didn't see any reason why I could not do this job.” she said. The men in the department do not mind her presence a bit. “She is coming along very well,” they said.
