DIPLOMATIC POST

Malayan 11l

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 16.

The High Commissioner designate for Malaya, Dato Sulaiman Abdul Rahman, who recently arrived in Australia, had arranged to visit New Zealand this month in order to present his credentials. Advice has been received. however, that the Dato is ill, and unable to come here for some time. Dato Sulaiman Abdul Rahman succeeded Dato Gunn Teik. who returned to Malaya last year. He will be accredited to both the Australian and New Zealand Governments. The possibility of the resignation of Mr S. Sen from the Indian High Cdmmissionership is being discussed in diplomatic circles. Mr Sen was recalled recently to New Delhi to assume the chairmanship, a post that he had held previously, of the Laos International Supervisory Commission, and. wi’h his colleagues, proceeded to that country, where he still is. It is now thought likely that Mr Sen’s duties in Laos will extend over a much longer period than at first believed. If that supposition proved correct, it is possible that the Government of India will aopoint a successor to him as High Commissioner accredited both to Australia and New Zealand. Like his predecessors. Mr Sen has resided at Canberra.
