NATIONAL ART GALLERY
Request For State Help
(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 16. The National Art Gallery of New Zealand made representations to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) today to seek increased grants. Mr Holyoake said a deputation had explained its financial position and staffing requirements to him. The Government makes certain grants to the Art Gallery and there are also grants from local bodies which have been increased “But this is s'ill nowhere near sufficient for them to carry out their work and all that they desire in the maintenance and display of the collections,” Mr Holyoake said. He said the Government was giving "earnest consideration” to the Art Gallery’s requests.
