RESEALING ROADS
Complaint Of Delay
The board was doing its best to see that roads were restored as soon as possible after sewerage work, but it and contractors faced some difficulties, the construction committee reported to the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening. The committee was reporting on a complaint from the North Linwood - Dallington Burgesses’ Association on long delays between the completion of drainage projects and the final resealing of the roads. The association said it was aware that a period of consolidation was necessary, but it appeared that with modern equipment, such as rammers, contractors should be required to complete final repair in a much shorter time than at present “In most cases the sewer contractors are in the hands of the roading contractors, and it is sometimes extremely difficult for the sewer contractors to get the roading work done when required,’’ the committee said. "In many cases the roading contractors are loath to come on to the job to do just a small length of roading, and prefer to leave it until a long length is involved. In all cases, however, the staff endeavours to have restoration work in hand as soon as possible.”
