Monrovia View “Unrealistic”

President Nkrumah of Ghana last night criticised the recent Monrovia conference of African States and reaffirmed his view that African nations should be willing to surrender their sovereignty in the interests of unity In a speech at a banquet in honour of President Soekamo of Indonesia. Dr. Nkrumah said: "In the new Africa we must be prepared to scrap outright frontiers which were drawn to suit the convenience of the colonial Powers without any regard whatsoever to ethnic or social groupings or the . economic needs of the * people.” , He stated his opposition to “ the resolution adopted at the • Monrovia conference, which B Ghana did not attend, in ‘ which leaders said they re- ‘ garded as “totally unrealis- . tic” any conception of unity which entails the surrender . of sovereignty. Dr. Nkrumah said that, ’ although a majority of indeB pendent African States was represented at Monrovia. .
