TROOPS IN S. KASAI
Withdrawal By U.N.
(N 7. P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LEOPOLDVILLE. May 15. The United Nations announced today the withdrawal of all Ghanaian troops from the South Kasai State ruled by Albert Kalonji because of persistent outbreaks of tribal fighting. Civilians working with the United Nations also have been withdrawn. Many of the officials have been working on a food distribution programme. A United Nations statement said the Ghanaians would be regrouped around Luluabourg. the North Kasai capital. The United Nations spokesman said that the Ghanaians had been left in small groups in exposed positions, and the Ghanaian commander had now decided that anything of less than company strength in one place was unsafe. The United Nations statement said that United Nations officials were negotiating with the South Kasai authorities to ensure the maintenance of shipments of food and medical supplies to the area.
