Elementary Skill
An elementary but very important skill in hockey is correct trappingx>f -the ball. Not only is it desirable to bring the ball to rest against the blade of the stick and to avoid a rebound, but it is also advantageous to have the feet and body so placed that a swift movement to elude an opponent can be made immediately. For these purposes there is a correct technique. It is unfortunate that a number of senior players, including some who have played provincial and even test hockey, adopt the clumsy, ungainly and ineffective method of placing one foot behind the stick as the ball is approaching. They succeed admirably in demonstrating the extent to which stick-work and subsequent movement must suffer, and their development will be hindered until they are prepared to be persuaded to alter their technique. In all the speed of modern hockey there is much heavy footwork and slow stick-work.
