PREDICTING THE BLOOD DEMAND

It might be possible to predict the demand for blood in the North Canterbury Blood Transfusion Service's district, the chairman (Dr. R. C. S. Dick) told the annual meeting of the service last evening. Dr. Dick said that last year was the first in which the demand for blood had not increased. It had been a worry to maintain the supply in other years. “I hope we have reached an equilibrium and that in future we may be able to say how much blood may be required.” he said. Questioned afterwards about the significance of this. Dr. Dick said it was not definite and that the demand for blood, which could be expected to increase as accidents increased, might rise again.
