May 15 The biggest post-war industrial link between Britain and West Germany was announced last night, the “Daily Express” reported The £lOO million Hawker Siddeley group—with interests ranging from military and civil aircraft to engineering and atomics—had joined forces with the Otto Wolff steel group in Cologne Initially, the linkup would be regarded as a “business association" but it would eventually mean: Sharing of overseas contracts particularly in underdeveloped areas, between the two groups The first step by Hawkers to establish a powerful bridgehead in Europe A major effort by Hawkers —whose turnover last year was more than £2BO million—to secure more contracts with NATO., particularly in aircraft and missiles The Hawker Siddeley group had interests in Australia, Canada, and India The Otto Wolff group was one of Germany’s largest steel trading firms. It had "vast” markets in Germany.
