BIG ACCIDENT TOLL IN AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, May 15 1 Auckland and its suburbs i has had the heaviest week- ] end road-accident toll tor 1 many months. < Two persons died in a col- i lision. 23 others were taken to hospital, and a man col- ( lapsed and died behind the , wheel of his car. In a miscellany of other , week-end accidents, and , deaths, one man died at work . 10 footballers were admitted i to hospital with injuries : ranging from concussion to broken ribs, eight persons were hurt in falls, and three others hurt in brawls and assaults, including a man who was stabbed in the head Electric shock and severe petrol burns accounted for two other casualties. The man stabbed is Mr W
Hamilton, of 93 Richmond road, Ponsonby. He was picked up by ambulance at 11.35 on Saturday night at the corner of Franklin and Pon- ■ sonby roads. 1 At Titirangi, Mr Francis • Carter, of 153 Titirangi road. ‘ collapsed behind the wheel of his car as he was turning into his driveway The car ran I down the sloping drive, hit a stone wall, and rolled over. 1 Mr Carter died soon after an ■ ambulance arrived. >
