OLD GIRLS’ BALL

St. Margaret’s College

More than 450 guests attended the annual ball held by the St Margari et’s College Old Girls’ Association at the Winter Garden on Saturday evening. Official guests, who were received by the president (Miss Gwen Rankin), included representatives from the old boys’ associations of [St. Andrew’s College, Christ - i church Boys’ High School. ! Wanganui Collegiate School and Christ's College. Miss Rankin wore a gown ' of deep blue velvet patterned in silver and made with full bell-shaped skirt and softly > swathed bodice. ! Mrs E. A. Guillermo, secrei tary of the association, chose a gown of soft lilac delustred satin. The bodice was ■trimmed with bands of rich | violet satin, which were continued to the back forming a large bow and floating ! panels. ' Mrs C. L. Sturge, treasurer 'of the association, wore a frock of deep kingfisher green delustred satin made with a square neckline. The straight skirt had back fullness falling from folds of the I material. Committee The committee responsible for the outstanding success of the ball was. —President, Miss Mesdames R. J. Dendle, J. B. G. Rankin; honorary vicepresident, Miss L. Gardner; vice-presidents, Mesdames R. J. Dendle. J. B. Williams, H. H. Wauchop: secretary. Mrs E. A. Guillermo; treasurer. Mrs C. L. Sturge: committee. Mesdames E. T. H. Taylor. H. H. Deans, J. K. Lawrence, J. N. Matson, P. Maples. Misses J. Gebbie, D. Clark, M. Morten, J. White. A huge bowl of chrysanthemums and autumn leaves standing in the entrance hall gave a warm touch of colour. The ballroom was gaily decorated with large bow’ls of coloured hydrangeas and hanging baskets of silver bracken and multi-coloured flowers. The official supper tables were bright with beautiful arrangements of scarlet flowers and decorative fruits. Low bowls of pink carnations decorated the tables in the supper room. Trumpets and squeakers were distributed during the evening.
