Surprise Win By Sharply
(N Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright I BRISBANE, May 14. The Sydney Cup winner Sharply surprised racegoers at Eagle Farm yesterday by winning the six-furlong Wallum Park Handicap brilliantly. After the win. some bookmakers operating on the Stradbroke - Brisbane Cup double elevated Sharply to cup favouritism. They dropped Tulloch to the second line of betting. Others had Sharply favourite with Tulloch. Sharply, having his first start since winning the twomile Sydney Cup at Randwick on Easter Monday, won running away by two lengths and a-half. He beat the Stradbroke hope, The Conveyanter (16/1) with Hoss (25/1) a long neck further back third. Sharply started at 8/1 after opening at 10/1 and drifting to 12/1. There was no element of fluke in the win, which was expected by the horse’s connexions. The part-owner. Mr G. Quilkey, flew up from Sydney especially to see the horse race. Sharply's regular jockey, B. Howlett, also came from Sydney to ride him yesterday.
