IN Z J>.A -Reuter—Cnpyrifht) MELBOURNE. May 14 The New Zealand-bred Prince Lea (3/1) beat Queen of the May in a photo-finish in the Second Lonsdale Stakes at Caulfield yesterday. Aquanita finished a close third. Prince Lea is not in the Strad'broke Handicap (seven furlongs), in Brisbane on June 10. but is in the Doomben Ten Thousand in July, and he will probably go foi that race. The trainer, Basil Conaghan, who bought Prince Lea in New Zealand as a yearling from Mr T. G. Logan, was ill yesterday and did not go to Caulfield. Prinee Lea was saddled up by a former New Zealander, Jack McDonald. From a Stradbroke viewpoint. the performances of Queen of the May and Aquanita was pleasing. After their performances. Queen of the May and Aquanita firmed with course bookmakers betting on the Stradbroke - Brisbane Cup double. Samson is not going for the Stradbroke, according to his trainer, Brian Courtney.
