Brothers Top List
DUNEDIN, May 14. R. J. Skelton (right, above) of Wingatui, is now level with his brother, W. D. Skelton, on the jockey’s ladder for the season with 70 winning rides. R. J. Skelton had two winning rides at Invercargill on Saturday. His first success on Laura was in the Apprentices’ Handicap, in which there were only nine apprentice riders available for the 20 horse field. He also won the feature flat race, the Awarua Handicap, on the favourite, Solus. W. D. Skelton, who made a hurried trip to Invercargill by car after the announcement of the postponement of the Ashburton meeting, was third in this event on the little fancied Glenrowan.
