Obituary MR D. SAUNDERS

A well-known resident of Greymouth, Mr David Saunders, died suddenly in the Grey Hospital early on Saturday morning. He had been unwell for some weeks, and had been in the hospital for a month.

Mr Saunders was born in Greymouth 57 years ago, and received his education at the Marist Brothers’ High School. For the last twenty years he had been agent for “The Press.” first in partnership with Mr J. Mclnroe. and for the last five years and a half with his brother. In his younger days. Mr Saunders was a member of the Star Rugby Club, and for the last three years he has been on the committee of the Greymouth Trotting Club. He owned and raced a number of horses, both galloping and trotting. Mr Saunders was a foundation member of the Greymouth Blood Donors’ Society, and acted as its secretary for several years. He was also a member of the Greymouth Aero Club and Greymouth Poultry Club. Mr Saunders, who was 'unmarried, is survived by - two brothers. George and i Fred, and two sisters, Anne and Gladys, all of Greymouth.

Mr G. A. Milne

Mr George A. Milne, a vicepresident of the Canterbury 'Chamber of Commerce. ; collapsed and died while playing golf at the Russley golf course on Saturday morning. He was in his early fifties. x An accountant, Mr Milne had been a member of the Russley Golf Club for 12 years, a member of the committee for six years, and treasurer for the last four years. He was also a member of the Christchurch Businessmen’s Club and a former president of the Fendalton Bowling Club. Mr Milne is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.

Mr H. KILLNER

The death occured on Saturday of Mr Henry Killner. a former accountant for Smith and Smith, Ltd., who in his early years took an active part in cricket, athletics. and rowing in Christchurch. He was 86. Born in Christchurch, Mr Killner was educated at the Christchurch East School. During the early volunteer days he served with the Linwood Rifles, and during his residence in that district was a foundation member and later a president of the Linwood Bowling Club. He later joined the United Bowling Club, and was honorary auditor to the Christchurch Bowling Centre for 40 years. During his youth Mr Killner used to ride frbm Christchurch to Akaroa on a I penny-farthing bicycle on roads which were far from conducive to easy travelling. He is survived by his wife, one son. Mr Arthur Killner, and a daughter, Mrs J. Brittain, of Kaitaia. His younger son. Flying Officer Walter Killner, was killed in action during operations over Germany in the last war. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.
