LATE FINISH TO SOCCER
Floodlights Required
(N Z Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 14. Floodlights were required to complete a second-round Chatham Cup soccer match between Eastern Suburbs and Point Chevalier at Blandford Park, Auckland, on Saturday. The curtain-raiser, another Chatham Cup match, between Blockhouse Bay .and Mount Roskill, required 30 minutes extra time to reach a decision, and the main match started 40 minutes Late. At 5 p.m., however, when the normal 90 minutes had been played, there was no score. The floodlights, installed last season, were turned on as the teams changed ends for an extra 30 minutes’ play, just as a heavy d'ownpour descended on the park. The match was finished, in near darkness, at 5.30 p.m., with the rain still falling.
