City Planning

Sir,—"Follow the Leader” is kind to the six members of Parliament for giving up their time to see what an electric railway from Lyttelton to Rolleston would do. There are so many angles to this proposition that the Gov. eminent should set up an in. quiry by departmental experts. It might save huge sums in developing New Zealand. The fact is that a new 250,000 city could be built in a few’ years near Christchurch. But from this, ideas could be evolved for building new city areas in other parts of New Zealand. Sections for homes are at insane prices in most New Zealand cities. Then folks who have paid a small deposit on a home buy an expensive motor-car. The time may come when the Government homes will only be sold to citizens who will not be allowed to own a motor-car until two-thirds of their home mortgage is paid off:—Yours, etc, L. C. WALKER. May 12. 1961.
