Obituary MR P. G. LAMB
Mr Peter Gordon Lamb, who died at his home in Moncks Bay yesterday, was art master at the Christchurch Boys’ High School from 1952, a keen yachtsman, and an enthusiast for several other outdoor sports. Mr Lamb was 39, and had been ill since last August. He was born in Christchurch and educated at the Christchurch Boys’ High School before beginning on an engineering course. This was interrupted by war service with the 3rd Division in the Pacific; and after the war he decided to take up art. He studied at the Canterbury University College School of Art, supporting himself by boat-building, and in 1949 was appointed art master at the Waitaki Boys’ High School. Mr Lamb was a popular master at the Christchurch Boys’ High School, where he was In charge of Rugby football training, a cricket coach and officer in charge of the school's Sea Cadets. He was a keen golfer and skier, but his main interest was yachting, and he was a former commodore of the Christchurch Yacht Club. In his spare time over three years he built himself a 42ft schooner In the back garden of his home In Moncks Bay. The schooner was launched early in 1959, and Mr Lamb bed plane to take hi* family around the Pacific islands and do paintings on the trip. He is survived by his wife and a son.
