Special Pay For Shepard
(N.Z Press Assn.—Cowright) WASHINGTON, May 10. Commander Alan Shepard made 14 dollars 38 cents by flying into space last Friday. The United States Navy proposed the figure today after checking his pay status. As a commander on flying duty. Shepard received an extra 230 dollars a month but had to fly four hour? a month for it. He drew regular pay as well, but no special compensation as an astronaut. The 15-minute ride 115 miles high counted toward the four hours’ flying time.
