LITTLE SEED AVAILABLE

Farmers should not rush to their merchants expecting to obtain enough seed of the new wheat varieties Hilgendorf (1961) or Cross 7 (1961) to sow substantial acreages. This was said this week by Mr L. G. Copp, senior cereal breeder of the Crop Research Division. Only 150 bushels of the new Hilgendorf will be available for distribution through merchants in Marlborough, North and Mid Canterbury, areas where Hilgendorf has been grown. A little more Cross 7 (1961) will be available —200 to 300 bushels —and it will be distributed more widely.
