“Help Those Allied To Farming”
Instead of different sections of the community seeking larger shares of diminishing overseas credits, would it not be more logical to work towards producing more exchange from increased farm production? the chairman of the agriculture section of the North Canterbury Federated Farmers (Mr R G. Rainey) said in his annual report. “The best thing for New Zealand as a whole is to capitalise on our natural fortune —our green grass and wonderful climate.” he said.
"Help our industries which are allied to, or process, our farm production, but others —such as the proposed cotton and iron and steel industries—should not receive anything but a token protection for a short time" There would be no criticism of the protected “hothouse" industries if they could produce and export and compete on the world market Mr Rainey said.
