Athens Honour For Freyberg
fN.Z.P.A -Reuter—Coppright) ATHENS. May 11. Lieutenant-General Lord Freyberg. V.C., commander of the Allied forces in Crete in 1941, today received the gold medal of the city of Athens with a diploma naming him “Hero of Crete." The medal was presented to the former New Zealand Governor-General by a delegation of Athens Town Council led by the Mayor (Mr A. Tsoukalas) and LieutenantGeneral P. Katsotas, who during the war commanded the Greek brigade which fought in Italy beside General Freyberg's New Zealanders. Cyclist Injured— Mr B Roughan, of 84 Malcolm avenue, suffered minor injuries when a cycle be was riding and a car collided at the intersection of Ruston and Selwyn streets at 4 p.m. yesterday. He was treated at the casualty department of the Christchurch Hospital.
