AIR FORCE DC6’s

Crews To Have Course

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 12. The three DC6 aircraft being bought by the R.N.Z.A.F. from T.E-A.L as an interim step in its transport re-equip-ment programme were officially taken over by the Air Force today. The first Air Force DC6i crew will begin a week’s re-! fresher and familiarisation course with T.E.A.L. on Monday with a further five crews starting a six weeks’ training course on May 22. an Air Force statement said today. The first crew includes a captain, two co-pilots and four engineers who were seconded to T.E.A.L for some months last year. It is planned that this crew, accompanied by a T.E.A.L. training crew should fly one DC6 schedule to Singapore bsfore the end of May which will make it then fully qualified for route flying. This crew will then assist with the training of the other five Air Force crews.

It is expected that the R.N.Z.A.F. will have sufficient qualified crews to carry out the airlift of the replacement battalion for Malaya in November. Initially all ground servicing will be carried out by TEAL. Later, R.N.Z.A.F. ground crew will take on certain servicing commitments after receiving specialised instruction with T.E.A.L.
