Freedom From Hunger Call
(N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DUBROVNIK (Jugoslavia'. May 12. Dumping of cheap butter on the British market by some European countries is pikely to be raised today by New Zealand and Australian delegates at a conference of farming experts in Dubrovnik. The conference, the twelfth of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers, is also expected to consider the present International Wheat Agreement and urge its renewal when it expires in 1962 It will go into private committee sessions today. Speakers at yesterday’s opening session told delegates from 29 countries that much of humanity still went hungry and the world food situation was not much better than it was in 1946. The American president of the F.1.P.A.. Mr James G. Patton, appealed for support for a “freedom from hunger" campaign. He said all countries, especially those which were highly developed, must realise the need for an international body and an international fund for the most effective use of agricultural surplus to aid underdeveloped countries. The “freedom from hunger” campaign was launched by the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation. Tlie F.1.P.A., a world organisation embracing farmers and agricultural co-operative organisations, holds the high-est-ranking observer status with the F.A.O. The setting up of a "world food bank” of surplus products from which supplies could be drawn for hungry nations was expected to be one of the most important topics at the 13-day conference.
