PORK AND BACON PRICES
Improvement Last Year In spite of the uncertainty of the overseas butter market and increasing farming Costs, pork and bacon prices had improved in the last year, said the supervisor of the South Island District Pig Council <Mr J. Graham) on Wednesday. Mr Graham addressed the annual meeting of the Canterbury District Pig Committee He said the better position in the pig industry had induced farmers to settle down to a clear-cut breeding programme to attain the highest number of prime 1 bacon pigs. Compulsory grading had changed the attitude of pig farmers. Mr Graham said. Sires which produce progeny with the desired proportion of lean meat were in keen demand. A few years ago a sire had been ‘‘just another Pig”
