Irrepressible Does Well
“The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, May 11. An impressive trial by Irrepressible and pleasing sprints by Strategy and Napra were highlights of the track work at Wingatui this morning. The trestles were 20 feet out on the course proper and the track was good. Ridden by her race rider. J. R. Dowling. Irrepressible appeared to be galloping better than her stable-mate. Fire Bar (R. J. Pledger), at the end of six furlongs in Imin 18sec. the last three furlongs in 40sec. Panel (J. D. Pankhurst) completed her preparation for the Awarua Handicap, the first leg of the Southland double, with a sound workout. She finished on terms with Captain Morgan (B. E. Kennedy) four lengths clear of Le Rol (H. J. Powell), with Depend (G. Olive) and Ops (R. Low) beaten off at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 37sec. the first half-mile in 53sec. Promise Promise (R. O. Cairns), another form runner for the Awarua Handicap, was travelling easily alongside Mananui (H. T. Anderton), Arctic Star, Pearly Gate (B. J. Andertom, and Raglan (G. Mclntyre) to cover the same distance in 1 min 38sec. after taking 55sec for the opening half-mile. Tarmine (J. D. Pankhurst) and Mighty Robin (A. I. Powell) ran the first three furlongs in 42sec. and were not extended to complete “'six furi longs in Imin 26sec.
This time was equalled by McGregor (B. J. Anderton). Ravelston (R. J. Skelton), and No Offence (A. I. Powell). They were not out for time, and coasted home over the last three furlongs in 43see. Sydtrev (B. E. Kennedy* took Imin 25 2-ssec, the first three furlongs in 40sec. Strategy (J. R. Dowling) dashed a length and a half clear of Kumai (B. J. Anderton) to record Imin 6sec for five furlongs, the first two furlongs in 25 l-ssec. Napra (A. 1. Powell) covered extra ground, but completed half a mile in 53 2-ssec, after taking 13sec for the first furlong. Cassius (S. Diack) and Milord (B. J. Anderton) ran the first furlong in Msec, and were together in 54 4-ssec. Cashmere (H. T. Anderton) and The Era (G. Mclntyre) showed their fitness by dashing home the last three furlongs in 38sec.
Raglan (R. O. Cairns) made light of his task over a round of four hurdles.
Cornflake (R. Low) and Masefield (R. Crowe) showed promise over the same fences.
