TRADE WITH FORMOSA
Ambassador In N.Z. For Talks
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 11
Nationalist China wants trade to increase between New Zealand and Formosa, and for that reason the Chinese Ambassador to Australia, Mr Chen Chih Mai has come to New Zealand for trade talks with the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and the Minister of Trade (Mr Marshall). Mr Chen said on his arrival in the Oriana at Auckland today that Formosa wanted New Zealand to buy more manufactured goods, “particularly textiles" and in return Formosa would take more primary products.
“Most of our trade is with the United States, but we feel it would be to our benefit to sell more to Australia and New Zealand." he said. The Chinese trade mission to New- Zealand last year had come away a little disappointed because of the “very small orders that were placed,” he said.
