EXHIBITION BUILDING
Completion Near
The Canterbury Court building, which has been constructed jointly by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association, is nearing completion, and pouring of the floor was finished on April 29 to a very high standard, said the report of the secretary (Mi- H. M. Studholme) at a meeting of the committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Wednesday. ’ The buildings, estimated to cost about £BO,OOO. would have about an acre and a half of display space, and will be suitable for various indoor sports, dancing, and many other activities. The building would soon be put to use by the Canterbury Roller Skating Club, and tihe floor had been finished especially carefully for this and other activities, said Mr Studholme. He said the association had received several inquiries about renting the building. Mr M. S. Turton said many organisations did not know that “this very fine building” was available for rental. Now that it was almost completed this factor should be publicised more fully by the association.
Kennel Club's Future The Canterurby Kennel Clubdvas very concerned for, the future because of the association’s proposal eventually to dismantle the old building in which the club held its shows, said Mr J. Fulton. The club was planning ahead, and wished to know whether it could expect to haye a building available in the future. Mr Fulton said he had told a clpb official that this and other old buildings would have to be removed eventually, but that the club could possibly assure itself of future accommodation for its shows if it helped in financing building projects to replace the old headquarters. The committee decided to refer the matter to the ground planning committee for its advice on the kennel club’s | future at the show grounds. Show Attractions No ring attractions had been arranged by the committee for this year’s show so far, said Mr J. C. Grigg. Last year's show featured a quadrille and woodchopping among the ring attractions. Both proved very popular with the crowds.
Mr J. W. Overton said the woodchopping could be enlarged by inviting skilled axemen to take part in pole chopping events. The committee decided to defer the matter so that other suggestions could be made.
